What makes you happy during Christmas? Isn’t it delightful to see the happy faces of each and everyone because of your simple act of sharing and giving? That is why you are happy because others are happy because of you.
A week before Christmas I usually go shopping on my own to buy presents that I would like to give to my cousins. I already familiarized their likes and wants so it wasn’t at all difficult to find the perfect gift for them. I started wrapping them in a unique way such that I placed small notes outside each box containing riddles describing the gift per se. Therefore, before opening their present, they had to read the riddle aloud and answer it. If, however, they failed to give the right answer, they had to perform a dance or song in front the family crowd before they could unwrap their present.
That’s not the only gift I prepared for them. I also included Christmas Sweets but wrapped in a separate box. They supposedly are going to be my token of appreciation for thanking them for the love and care they’ve shown me all these years. There’s nothing overwhelming than having the opportunity to show my gratitude.
Finally, feeling relieved, I gave them their presents on Christmas Day. They’re intelligent people so they were able to guess the riddles and didn’t experience the embarrassment of painstakingly performing a dance or song in front of the family. They also opened the other boxes containing Christmas Sweets. Altogether we gorge to those Christmas Sweets and welcomed another Christmas celebration.
It was indeed something I'm proud to share about because not only did I give presents but also because I felt the reward of great content and happiness when I genuinely shared.
Do you miss out on what’s happening outside during Christmas? Well, don’t. Never miss out on appreciating how the world is getting even more wonderful to live in for the fact of Christmas. Really, it changes everything wonderfully. Everywhere you look there are unique decorations and creations that symbolize Christmas. The corners of the sidewalk, establishments like banks, schools and even offices are decorated with fancy Christmas decorations and brilliantly imitated Christmas characters such as Santa Clause, reindeers, angels, and so many others. I adore them a lot.
One Christmas morning I passed by to one of the stores which seemed to have very detailed decorations outside made from recycled foils and papers. An air bell, which I confused to be lollipops tied together, was hanging above the main door. I was curious so I went in only to find out that there have been many people who got there first and who seemed to have stayed longer than I thought. I tried to sneak my way in and forward and saw a very breathtaking view I’ve yet seen in my entire life. The store actually had a huge Christmas tree with Christmas Sweets on each branch and with a star on top made from chocolates covered in red wrappers. I was in awe. Surely, I was stuck there like glue just staring at the Christmas tree. However, that wasn’t the only thing that surprised me. The store gladly announced to the crowd that they’ll be giving Christmas Sweets to each of us as their treat for Christmas Day. Truly it was a great Christmas experience. Nothing like it seemed to be more phenomenal. I never thought Christmas would bring out the best in everyone. I walked home feeling very amused while eating the best Christmas treat, the Christmas Sweets.
There was one time in my life that I only had three closest friends and we lived far from each other, one is my very best friend up to this point in time. Everytime we get together it’s already very extraordinary to me. We had our annual celebration when we started our friendship, which was December 23, two days before Christmas. Each time we celebrate it, we bring along Christmas Sweets. My favorite were the chocolates, my best friend’s favorite was the plain lollipop and my closest friend’s favorite was the lollipop with a gum inside. I know that the celebration would never be complete without those Christmas Sweets because they really are the ones lighting up the room when the three of us are together and somehow in our lives, especially our up and down moments, the Christmas Sweets were there for comfort.
So you see, Christmas Sweets were not only part of the food group but also a part of life, our lives for that matter. We made the Christmas Sweets part of our daily lives already. Today, we are not as close as we used to but oftentimes we meet along the corridors of the school or even at malls. We sometimes stop for a while and chat about the happenings of our lives. We are still happy though. What’s amusing is the fact that everytime we bump into each other, no “Christmas Sweets” was ever excluded in a conversation. Yes, it’s true. We still talk about the favorite Christmas Sweets that we all shared, which brought joy to our lives at that very moment. I’m not certain where we will go from here but I know in my heart that someday we will still be meeting in one place together with Christmas Sweets – the only love in our lives.
My mom’s colleagues are big fans of chocolates, candies and lollipops and so they agreed in one theme for their Christmas party – Christmas Sweets. In one of my mother’s Christmas parties I attended to, one stood out. This was held in a place not decorated with common Christmas paraphernalia, or with Christmas balls under the Christmas trees. I couldn’t help but look closer and to my amusement, Christmas Sweets were placed as substitutes for Christmas decorations. It was beautiful and artistic. I kept watching the various bright colors of wrapped chocolates, candies and lollipops illuminating the room, hanging in the veranda and above the ceiling. I wonder if they’re just imitations of Christmas Sweets to make the room lively and welcoming but I was incorrect. At the middle of the party there was a game called “Pick one and you’ll get one.” The mechanics of the game was to get as many Christmas Sweets as they can and the one with the most chocolates will be declared winner. Then, they may begin eating what they have gathered. It was fun watching people come and go, pulling everything they can and laughing all the way.
The room turned empty except for the Christmas trees that stood on each side of the small stage. However, there was another game called “Dress me good.” From the name itself, I thought it involved dressing a person but it involved dressing the Christmas trees and other corners of the room with Christmas Sweets. There were two groups, one in the left side of the room, the other on the right and whoever “dresses” the room well will receive a price. Again, the room lit up and at the end of the party we all ate the Christmas Sweets and greeted each other a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Last summer we had a sleep over in our house, which consisted of me, my sister and our four cousins, six in total. It was like a slumber party. Although we had other sleep over which were spontaneous, this one‘s a lot better, unexpected and less boring.
First we all helped each other set the table for dinner. After dinner, the first two arranged the chairs, the other two cleared the dining table and the other two again, which includes me, washed the dishes. I know that my mom liked it that way because all she would do then was to watch the TV.Now… now… I know you may think it’s a common scenario and its getting a little bit boring but I tell you it’s just the start.
After 5 hours or so, we prepared our sleeping bags in the living room along with the midnight snacks consisting of chips and cookies. One of my cousins refused to join us in playing indoor games and without a word, decided to sleep earlier than us. We decided to do the same after finishing off the snacks since it was not fun at all if the group was incomplete. At 3 AM we were awakened by the loudest alarm clock set by my cousin who slept earlier and while we were all about to rub our eyes we felt something soft and smooth in our hands. I turned on the lights using my right hand while holding the “thing” in my left. I saw that each of us had Christmas Sweets in our hands. My cousin planned it all along to feel grumpy about the whole sleep over to make it less obvious that she was going to surprise us with Christmas Sweets. We stayed up late and ate our Christmas Sweets while she was telling us that the reason behind the surprise was that she was hired for a job. We congratulated her and kept thanking her for her treat. All in one sleep over things got confusing, surprising and exciting. The Christmas Sweets made our sleep over a more delightful and special event of our lives.
